Based on the book of The Shadow World, this feature length documentary is an investigation into the multi-billion dollar international arms trade. Directed by Johan Grimonprez and based on Andrew Feinstein’s globally acclaimed book The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade, the film SHADOW WORLD reveals how the international trade in weapons - with the complicity ofgovernments and intelligence agencies, investigative and prosecutorial bodies, weapons manufacturers, dealers andagents - fosters corruption, determines economic and foreign policies, undermines democracy and creates widespreadsuffering. SHADOW WORLD posits an alternative through the experience of a peace activist and war correspondent, aswell as the stories of Eduardo Galeano. But ultimately the film reveals the real costs of war, the way the arms trade drives it, how the weapons ofwar are now being turned against the citizens of liberal democracies, and how the ‘shadow world’ is taking over. Two working class youtubers ‘in the making’ enter an abandoned mansion to get their basketball back, and get lost inside while pranking each other. They record their ‘quick adventure’ with their phones for their audience, and tweak it with a fake phantom appearance to attract more followers to their YouTube channel. When uploaded the video goes viral, so they start a challenge: if the video reaches a certain number of views, they will enter the house again, at night, alone, totally unprotected. As fans react positively, they will do as promised, not only to discover and unveil the true nature of the place and their inhabitants, but to realize they might not be among the living anymore. Which opens a question - how far would you go to be famous?

Pablo’s life is ruled by drugs and by the intense and oppressive relationship he has with his mother, a former cocaine mule who escaped from Colombia and with whom he shares a small house in the outskirts of Rome. After her death, following her relapse into drug addiction caused by his emotional involvement with a young Colombian girl mixed up in the smuggling ring, Pablo’s guilt pushes him to try and bring her ashes back to Colombia. When the embassy denies his request on the basis of the fake identity and passport of his mother, the protagonist will be forced to tackle the journey by ingesting ovules containing ashes instead of drugs and he will find himself in his home country for the first time, desperately looking for redemption and his mother’s house on the Madgalena river.

Once upon a time, Juan Pérez, the poorest of the poor, reaches fame in a fluke accident in what seemed to be an attempt of suicide, to protest against the government and his social condition. The Ministry of Economy, surrounded by the scandal in which he is blamed by Pérez's decision, decides to reward him changing his life giving him a little house, a car and a job. But when other poor people (Pérez's close friends) find out about his reversal of fortune, decide to imitate him faking suicide attempts in different buildings in Mexico City. The Ministry of Economy, terrified by the glance of having a plague of beggars, decides to declare poverty a crime and hence finish for once and for all with all the poor in the country. Pérez ends up behind bars. Three years later, Pérez is released and goes back to his previous social condition, but this time, aware of having one day as a rich man is better than a life as poor, he will do anything to get out of his misery... And he will manage to do so!
