Yura, working at a local nature museum, looking for a rare species, witnesses an arson in the forest. He brings the photos to a local newspaper, and gets a job there. With his new profession it dawns to him that the reality around him is a far cry from what is written in the newspaper.
Enea, Aeneas, pursues the myth that his name bears. He does it to feel alive in a dead and decadent age. He does it in the company of Valentino, a newly christened aviator. Together with the drug dealing and the parties, the two boys share their youth. Lifelong friends, victims and perpetrators of a corrupt world, but moved by an incorruptible vitality. Beyond the boundaries of the rules, on the other side of morality, there’s an ocean of humanity and symbols to discover. Enea and Valentino will soar over it to the furthest extremes. But the drugs and the underworld are the invisible shadow of a story that speaks of something else: a melancholy father, a brother who has conflicts at school, a mother defeated by love and a beautiful girl, a happy ending and a happy death, a palm tree falling on a world made of glass. It is between the cracks of everyday life that Enea and Valentino’s adventure gradually finds reprieve. An adventure that may seem criminal to others, but which for them is, and will be first and foremost, an adventure of friendship and love.
Mexico is one of the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists. But courageous reporters continue to do their work regardless; without the press there would be no one revealing the extent to which crime and politics are intermingled. The judicial system hides behind claims of insufficient evidence to prosecute crimes, while journalists are the ones who provide such evidence. In State of Silence four journalists discuss their work. One of them investigates illegal logging and environmental pollution, while another writes about police violence against migrants attempting to cross the border. The risks are great, and threats are commonplace. Almost 200 reporters have disappeared or been murdered since 2000. A law was passed under President López Obrador enabling journalists and human rights activists to seek refuge in the US—but doesn’t leaving everything that you love behind you, mean the criminals have won? Some of the journalists return to Mexico because their work is too important. “When a journalist is murdered,” says one of them, “society’s right to be informed dies, too.”

Her fiance withdraws from their engagement, her father rages, and Erlend's former mistress tries to poison her. The affair grows into a political issue, and finally some of the country's most dignified leaders persuade Lavrans to give in.
